This is a work created in the Natural History Museum of Florence named “La Specola”. The museum , founded by Grand Duke Peter Leopold of Lorraine, was opened to the public in 1775 and is the oldest science museum in Europe. It contains the world 's largest collection of wax anatomical models , made between 1770 and 1850 , and over 3,500,000 animals , of which about 5,000 visible to the public.
The endangered species are unfortunately becoming more numerous and constantly increasing the number of those is also now completely disappeared. The causes of this worrying situation often depend on the increasing human activity and affect mainly related to species confined spaces and details, with limited reproductive capacity or who have not developed adequate behaviors of escape or defense.
What was once a practice of scientific cataloging of species as it has become in many cases the only existing memory of some kind, as if part of nature now no longer exists in its original environment, but only in that recreated artificially by man . A concern is that mirror reversal in terms of a future increasingly at risk for the biodiversity of our planet. Hence my choice to represent the subjects abstracting, in a form to be perceived as borderline between the living and the dead, between the real and the unreal.
