My practice as an artist working in the moving image is concerned with the intersection of the real with the fictitious, and the mundane with the epic. My films explore the cyclicity and inevitability of history, the role of an individual within it, and the iconography of cultural signifiers that gets left in its wake, only to be rewritten as a different kind of history. I am interested in the apocalyptic and utopian gaze of the artist and the tourist, as contributors to an archaeology of the present and the future. "New Empire" is a science fiction documentary on modern day Russia told through the remnants of Soviet iconography and present day rituals. It's a story of a civilisation that rises amidst melting snow and free-market capitalism in the ruins of a magnificent fallen empire. It has been shown in Kassel Documentary Festival, Antimatter Film Festival, Aesthetica Short Film Festival, Open City Documentary Film Festival and Globians Documentary Film Festival Berlin as well as in the Ariella Wolens curated "Heterotopias" show in New York.
