Music Silhouette
Since early ‘90s, Katia Pesti has been developing her own way of composing. She is combining elements of the classical music language with ethnic sounds of the rejong percussion from Bali, of the Tibetan bells and Xylophone. Thanks to her personal technique, she is able to play piano and percussion simultaneously. Katia Pesti uses also the prepared piano and plays it’s strings with both musical and non-musical instruments. The sequences of gestures during the performance and the multitude of instruments interacting one with another create an organic whole, a proper universe. It’s this complex universe and all it’s parts that are depicted in the Music Silhouette video. Daniele Grillo tells the story of this elaborated musical performance through details. Instruments become characters and the music is their dialogue. The correspondence between forms, gestures and textures creates an unexpected tension.
