Scarf

Installation, Political / Social, Textile, 90x145x25cm
The conceptual work "Scarf" is an artistic interpretation of issues such as integration and economic equality between rich and poor communities as necessary steps for the successful development of democratic processes in multicultural societies. The idea of equality and membership regardless of race, religion and social position is expressed in materials and techniques as the non-figurative work is knitted by one long thread. My works are characterized by a seductive aesthetics and the separation between the narrative content and artistic expression is a common feature of my artistic production. A side-lying critical track refers to the widely held view among international art critics that craft is an individual category, and as such should not be equated with Fine Arts.

This old debate is so dated I had it while studying in the uk ?its just another form of imperalism ,division and hierarchy when will this debate be finished all divisions even in art production needs to free itself of such divisons.
All good art has been well crafted and those accredited should get praise .the idea of hierarchy in the field of craft and art dates to the middle ages but then craftsmen were highly respected and important members in society this is how it should be .Mary veale
