Tokens - trittico

In the past thirty years, technological growth has led to modifications in the ways in which humans communicate with one another, both on physiological and on emotional levels.
Cyberspace is radically changing human existences because - as Sherry Turkle wrote - translating life expectations to life on the screen.
If, in the physical world people live in public spaces with boundaries, so they are used to a certain level of privacy and control over their interactions, because the average face-to-face interaction remains in the context where it was presented. Here, more and more person attend social networks and chat-rooms online, because Internet gives them the opportunity to express themselves without caring too much for visible social anxiety or shyness, like in real life situations.
Indeed, there are many concerns about the future impact of Internet on human behaviour, as some researches demonstrate especially on sexuality. Cyber-sex is becoming more widespread, not only in order to need for lower-risk sex in the post-HIV era, but also because online visual interactions allow people to avoid face-to-face physical meetings or relationships
Much hi-tech sex is explicitly designed to satisfy narcisistic needs for reciprocal voyeurism and for almighty desires of self-invention or self- reconstruction.
Tokens multidisciplinary project explores the virtual polymorphic communities of erotically-oriented chat-rooms,
Perchè alcune esperienze di cyber-sex potrebbero essere interpretate come un inconsapevole tentativo di generare nuove (e probabilmente teratologiche) forme di strutture sociali collettive.
because some cyber-sex experiences could be interpreted as an unconscious attempt of spawning new (and probably teratological) forms of future collective social structure. Indeed, many of the narcisistic needs of sex chat-rooms’ users could be linked to the pervasive tendency to mutual voyeurism that is sociologically supported and legitimized by television formats such as reality shows.
Therefore, Internet and technology give sexual deviance the form of normative and patterned behavioral configurations called ‘‘technicways’’, by transforming vicarious, and often deviant, digital sex into an attractive substitutes for interpersonal forms of social and emotional fulfillment.
Then, many erotically –oriented chatrooms are becoming ‘‘back places” where human not only express their sexual preferences, but also their psychopathologies or more simply their solitudes. In these erotic chat-rooms, many users will spend the whole day in front of the screen, because they probably would openly seek out one another for emotional support, also by only receiving the gaze of others to own body.
But, the infosfere of these online worlds doesn’t possess real –life features, as touching, smell, taste, so cyberspace, like Gibson argued, is producing a global “consensual hallucination”, through which both presence and absence are diluted.
So, human life is more increasingly immersed in technological virtuality, reducing human perception to a kind of “polar inertia”, because people need not go anywhere, because the world comes to them while at the same time they are everywhere and nowhere.
And, while human bodies - but also human feelings and psychopathologies - become commodities in actual capitalist realism, the principal qualities of human existence - as sensitivity, empathy, imagination - are progressively destroyed.
Tokens multidisciplinary project aims to study the effects of digital era on individual mind and collective unconscious, through a central evolutionary question: what may be done to resist to global lethal bio-mutation?
