The work of Tatjana Leuzzi is in itself an example of hybridization and multiculturalism. Born in Mexico City of Italian and German descent, she was trained as an architect and has worked both as a designer and an independent artist. Photographically she treats the image as conventional and analogic, despite working on a digital platform. Those pictures are never retouched or altered by a design program, and her topic is clearly the city despite representation appearing initially abstract. Leuzzi explores the relationship and the transformation between cultural, physical, social and urban identities.

Leuzzi has resorted to details and out of focus atmospheres that depict what a certain place in the everyday life feels like. Leuzzi will not exert composition upon the environment she captures, rather the images are photographed as they were found and felt in the commotion and celerity of a contemporary metropolis. She’s interested in aesthetic values, such as hue, texture, and depth. Her work disavows the necessity to describe in detail what her eye has already witnessed. Instead she presents us with a glimpse, a postcard of an ink-like blue and flashing a moment, the ambiance proper to any city. Elements appear juxtaposed for comparison and contrast, isolated by extreme close-up, reduced to innuendos by severe over-exposure. Leuzzi discovers in her work lands of extremes, places of ice and fire, streets of transformation.

Tatjana is a runner and often she experiences and remembers scenes observed past the grayness of concrete, towering skyscrapers, advertising and graffiti texturized walls and noisy confluences, all which she breezes thru in her jog. Later she will revisit such an atmosphere and try to depict it for us in a snapshot.
