"You cannot nurture from inside a cage". In this piece we see a mother bird breaking from a cage as she becomes human again. She pours water toward her baby bird. The water turns into a figure which is bent over. This represents to me the question of "who is now screwed?" as the mother finally breaks from the cage and capture. The baby bird she is feeding is creatively dying from the lack of personal freedom the mother has had to live and raise the baby freely. The baby bird figure also becomes the lips a simplified woman's face image over the scene. Her place in life reduced to this. After all, this caged scene is only really her thoughts for interpreting the literal situation which holds women who find themselves trapped in abusive family situations. Surreal oil painting, done perfectly with the tension of a heavy oil line painting on top. Surrealipop art style. By Amy E. Malcolm
