Inversion of The Sacred The Cloisters Last Supper Triptych Series 2004 - 2014
Statement by the artist:
Initially I started working with Catholic clerical sex abuse issues in the early 90's. Inversion of the Sacred The Cloisters Last Supper Triptych Project addresses human rights v ancient Catholic Church’s ethics in light of Catholic clerical sex abuse and celibacy practice aspect. Particularly focusing on Catholic clerical sex abuse in current and historical context in relation to celibacy, media and social networks transparency is seeping through Catholic church's fort. Secularism based on civil rights is the very root of where current culture in the states is construct and it has evolved in to the core of the society.
What if I address a vision aesthetically poetic engaging and that makes a strong statement where a woman or a nun are equally respected and have the same rights as men. How does the vision may look like? The more I have looked into the Catholic priests’ sex abuse issues, I wanted to articulate that civil rights issue to be expressed fully. On the other hand Vatican's core of the institutional system especially confession and penitent relationship perhaps should be abandoned should they be seriously reform Vatican. Moreover empowering a vision of women in the future generation became my obsession. Looking at women’s sexuality I wish to depict healthy women and women who hope to see no glass ceiling over their head.
