A series of images made in the area of Tuscany, where I live, renowned worldwide, for centuries, for its stunning landscape, cities and art. Here, there is however the growing problem of new constructions and developments, many of which are poorly designed and built with low quality materials, often left unfinished and abandoned in the environment. Questions arise about the problems of corruption, the economic crisis and local government as much as looking at the state of Italy in general. I am fascinated and often troubled by what we do, how we live and what we are doing to the world and in the series WHAT WE BUY (inspired by Robert Adams's work in the American West ) tend to pinpoint alarming aspects of our behavior and the surrounding environment which sometimes being so close to home and in the name of progress, become overlooked by the locals, and for the moment at least, are avoidable to the general visitor. Setting myself in the land/development scape I am attempting to reiterate to the viewer what I do as a photographer and what I would appreciate others to do also; to remember what we have and to look after it.
