Urvashi

Urvashi

In Hindu mythology, Urvashi was a beautiful Nymph, who was transformed into a creeper for entering a forest that was forbidden to women.
This patinated terracotta sculpture shows the first steps of Urvashi’s metamorphosis. The Nymph’s features are still human, nonetheless her half-corrupted face as well as her creeper-like plaits and garments clearly betray her ongoing transformation.
