Urania 58

Urania 58 is an audio-visual performance devoted to the topic of retrofuturism. It is inspired by "Urania Universum", a series of popular science books annually published in Eastern Germany from the 50ies to the 90ies of the last century. The performance captures the spirit of the belief in progress. It also engages with the pseudo-religious component that is inherent in this belief. It envisions yesterdays future through the eyes of a believer in sciences.

The performance is presented on an dual screen video setup and a stereo soundsystem. It furthermore comprises some wall charts, a mechanical planetary model, several slide projectors and lots of scientific and technical gadgets from the 60ies and 70ies! These pieces form a stage design like a labratory, but arranged like an altar.

Music and sound design is created by Hecq. His works range from ambient to IDM, from orchestral to electronic. A fine mix of precise beats and emotive deepness, that perfectly catches the belief in progress.
