Dark Pink (dittico)
Dark Pink has a high degree of iconicity, that is, the images it conveys are faithful to their real-life models; therefore, they are recognizable images. However, their meaning is not limited to what they represent; the position they occupy in the space of the painting, as well as, their relationship, means that are constituted as visual allegories; which, finally, determine the meaning of the work. The two paintings that make up the diptych, while having the same iconographic, differ in some iconographic elements. As part of the left it is represented the decline of the male universe; the tortured body, headless (Romeu, sculpture by De Bruyckere 2010) symbolizes the death of the male; the smoke coming out from the navel is the allegory of the spirit leaves the body, which has become part of rotting flesh, to be caught at the top of a pot: metaphysical allegory of life. Under the right arm, however - which it is reflected, as to want autoclonare - another pot labeled with XY male chromosome: allegory of biological life. Mushrooms grown near the head draw a bird of fire that it dives steeply to disintegrate on the same: it is the petty attempt by man to want to return to live to commit his misdeeds, but, prevented by a desire metaphysical which can not oppose. At the foot of the male body, finally, lies a human skull, archetype of death. In the right pane, on the other hand, there is shown the evolution of the female; the body soft, velvety (Magdalene in the cave painting of Jules Joseph Lefebvre 1876) symbolizes the rebirth of the feminine; snail resting on the knee - as well as the woman lying on the bed of roses - is the allegory of a new Spring of the feminine spirit. Spirit which is illuminated by the light of a light bulb - on which there is another snail - fed, in turn, by the energy that escapes from the metaphysical life. Finally, at the bottom right, the pot which is labeled with XX is waiting to be filled with new life.
The work is dedicated to all victims of femicide.
