Seen from a distance, it looks like a single, transparent body, undulating like a snake. It is supported by thin vertical metal bars, forming moving and linked spaces. They are populated by figures with something in common: they are all made of the same fibre. They all look the same. On the transparent metal net, they stand alone and in groups, they stand opposite each other, they observe each other. It is only if you look at them carefully that their physiognomic differences can be seen.
The five curved spaces making up the sculpture, well-defined and open at the same time, symbolically stand for the different world cultures. Owing to their transparency, the people can see themselves with their differences, their limits. So some questions emerge on the diversity, but also on the similarity of those who lie before us. The Internet is creating an increasingly transparent world, and if we want to, we can see beyond our limits. Every day we experience being interconnected ever more strongly, whether we want to or not, both as states and as individuals. The present time forces us to call into question our physical or mental boundaries, and, as a consequence, to go beyond them
This is exactly what my sculpture is talking about: it speaks of opening spaces and minds. By moving together it is easier to create a future that - like always - has to be defined, elaborated and sustained.
