How the Sun Rose

How the Sun Rose

Painting, Human figure, Beauty, 75x135x2.5cm
Painting made using collage, acrylic and oil on canvas. Part of a series influenced by the blossom opening in Kyoto. I use images from interiors, fashion and bridal magazines and then radically alter these images. The figure in this painting and the dress are loosely based on a Ferragamo advert. The fashion image, beauty as the ideological promise of the good life and product placement, are fragmented and subverted. Sugary pastels and lurid fluorescent pigment signal our illusory and synthetic popular culture. Fakery and surface become interchangeable.
