OLTRE IL BUIO
The autonomous sailing for the blinds is no longer a taboo!
Pictures of Walter Pescara
The 10 photographs that comprise this project show that it was possible for a group of blind people to break the taboo of blindness and navigate autonomously on sailboats.
In particular this report, taken at Lake Garda Italy in collaboration with Homerus Project, recounts with the first 5 pictures in black and white some theoretical lessons given in the classroom through billboards and charts in relief to a group of blind people, while in the next 5 photos, in color, we look at the actual navigation and the final competition between the crews trained. The brown color at the top of the sails is a code that indicates to give absolute priority to the boat on which they are armed. At the bow of the boat is fitted an acoustic radar that indicates the direction and the route. The crews are in radio contact with the staff with precise directions only in case of risk of collision.
The photographs were all taken in 24x36 film: black and white negatives the first section and diacolour the second one.
