Dolls
Media spread an unique interpretation of beauty which causes women and men, both victim of this process, to reject the idea of growing old, under the fear of losing those temporary certainties that consumer society offers. To overcome this fear is increasily used plastic surgery and aesthetic medicine to its excess.
What is the limit of this cures? Which ideal do they led to? How is still possible to distinct from the collectivity?
In the historical period in which we live, technology is able to satisfy the need of physical perfection through the creation of artifacts that represent stereotyped and perfect bodies.
The theme of this project focuses particularly on the consequences of such thinking in the sexual taboos. Through media and pornography is depicted increasingly an image of the „perfect“ woman, or in other terms a feminine prototype.
This led to the creation of hyper-realistic sexual prothesis and „dolls“ which accurately simulate the female body for men‘s sexual pleasure: the „RealDolls“. Surprisingly men, which are also victims of this process, are increasingly attracted by an artificial female prototype, which is an generalistic idealization of a woman. No more no less than a doll.
This photographic artwork deals with the topic showing a series of shop window mannequins’ faces and bodies mixed with details of real women bodies. The aim is to compare, through an abstract representation, our idea of “doll” and our idea of “person“, removing any difference between the two, with a special attention on image of females as sexual “objects”.
During the duration of the exhibition it will be also exposed an Installation of a „Real Doll“.
