Being a mother means to live in two worlds. One world is a little palace full of sensuality, dreams, secrets, colors, hidden desires. The other world is the world, which is visible to our children, full of love, care, selflessness, being a saint. Between these two worlds is an insurmountable border. Mother’s feminine kingdom will never be seen by the child. It is a taboo to the child. It is hard for the child to accept the unknown place, feeling the mother sometimes drifting to it. The mother will always leave her palace in order to bring up her children, to stay in the palace, is a taboo, too. While a woman may feel her femininity increasing through motherhood, it may also cause the feeling not being seen as a woman anymore, but only as a mother. In my work, we see three taboos united, child’s taboo, mother’s taboo and the wall – the manifested taboo itself.
