Dead Tree, The Field Edenderry

Dead Tree, The Field Edenderry

Drawing of dead tree, outside Edenderry Village, Belfast. This is where the traditional July Orange Marchs used to convene to rest and listen to political speeches before marching back to Belfast City centre. The parades have now moved to another location but the tree remains as a silent witness to the history of Northern Ireland. The artist chose to draw it because of its resemblance to the human form and because, in a certain light, the bark seemed to be alive with small figures.
