not what it seems
Many of my works explore the human body as a source of inspiration, a subject matter and as a creative platform. The body is, in other words, the inspiration, the means and the canvas upon which I create – a self-fashioning immediate physicality which I present in my works. Aiming to penetrate the viewer’s subconscious by creating a meditative state or sensation, some of my works wish to envelop the viewer's consciousness and invite the audience to delve into the work and ‘transcend’ both themselves and the work of art itself. For example, in the work “Not What It Seems” I create a comparison between body parts. While the viewer’s gaze is focused on one simple frame, the mind transforms the shown image into something entirely different. The videos depict an eye, but their representation insinuates the shape of female reproductive organs. In other words, I explore themes of body perception, representation and sexuality by using simple, suggestive means.
