Mani Lontane-Faraway Hands

My work tends to focus on the idea of colour and its purity which is expressed through light. On my paintings, layers of transparent colour create ambiences of inner light, an atmosphere of colour almost floating on large dimensions of painting. Constellations, birds flying, a memory, all subjects that exist but we cannot see, in their abstract form, inspire my work as well as light itself. Light in all its dimensions, scientific, artistic, poetic as a messenger of the universe and knowledge, through its silent journey, comes to us as a fingerprint, a memory of the universe.
Mani Lontane, Faraway Hands is a single work created a few years ago during my research on a mother’s love. Pure red colour is dominating the canvas and creates a vibration on the human eyes which refers to blood, fire or other concepts like revolution and courage that became symbols of ancient and modern societies. The love from inside, the love of a mother can be strong or even cruel like flesh and blood in their pure image. Like blood was and is a taboo, a colour can be seen as tragic and through its tragedy reveal emotions deep and real, like a mother’s love.
