Women´s initiation - Baba Yaga and Vasalisa the wise
Despite all freedom we claim to have in our western society, stepping out of unconscious role models and subsequently finding, defining and exploring own visions of life still is no implicitness - even less for women. Choosing an ancient women´s craft like felting, for me was crucial for depicting the break of an unexpressed taboo when Vassalisa, a Slavic fairy-tale figure, dares to enter the crucial point of her initiation process. There she has to leave common trails and obedient behaviour, collect her courage, trust in her inner strength and decide to follow her wisdom …and eventually step out of the dark as a conscious, self-empowered, vital and wise woman.
The work is made from 100% coloured lamb´s wool fibers + textile thread. Wet and needle felted + stitchery.
