This painting, like “Liberation”, is part of the series “Prisoner of matter”. It thematizes one of the many underlying motifs of Gnosis - the “awakening” - that is, an awareness-rising state in which men and women experience what is known as “the ecstatic flash”. This sudden insight breaks us free from our self-made barriers and constraints, and we awake into a higher level of consciousness where our mind is no longer prisoner of matter. Upon “awakening” to our true self, we understand more than what the senses can disclose. The Stendhal Syndrome is one of these moments of being. So is any form of bewilderment triggered by a work of Art.
