My project concerns the Tzotzil Maya of Chiapas . Descendants of pre-Columbian people, the Tzotzil seek to maintain their cultural traditions , preserving the balance between their inner selves and the environment of the high Mexican plan. Photograph their body means rebuilding their identity , including poverty and pride.
Characterized by low levels of education , the Tzotzil also suffer from premature mortality. The attitude , hairstyles , accessories , posture , gestures , looks are all trappings of a body surface that characterizes their ethnic and cultural identity .
