IN VITRO

IN VITRO is inspired by the controversial wonders of genetic engineering and reflects on the reasons and the outcomes that drive such research.
While adopting contemporary aesthetics, the installation also evokes centuries of alchemy and experimentation, from Paracelsus’ Homunculus to its subsequent developments in Nineteenth century fiction.
A video projection is mapped on a set of laboratory test tubes where images acquire a holographic quality given by the combination of the internal liquid, the glass curvature and the rear projection.
A series of clones of female bodies and plants materialize and transform themselves “in vitro” showing several different relationships with the space and with the viewer…
