Glowing dark is a portrait that captures an unaware subject, revealing her graceful demeanor and delicate countenance in the dim light, sharp contrasts and magical atmosphere of an ancient cave system in Tanzania. Glowing dark is also an oxymoron that juxtaposes two ideas that appear to be in contraddiction: the dark as absence of light and the act of glowing as exuding light. It begs the question: can the dark glow? It is a metaphor exemplifying, through the glowing dark skin of a young black woman, an idea of inner and outer beauty that transcends race, etnicity, class, gender and age.
