Oubey Digital Discovery
The concept for the OUBEY Digital Discovery Installation was born in an “Encounter” with one of OUBEYs original paintings on Hawaii when the movement of sunlight across its surface revealed the three dimensionality of the painting and its deeper previously hidden layers. Through the development of the “Digital Discovery” this unique experience of the immediate unfiltered “Encounter” level can now be relived virtually in any place and at any time.
By turning the bowl in front of the screen, viewers can follow the progression of the light of the sun and moon as it wanders over the surface of five of OUBEYs paintings. Thus the installation, which originally was part of the OUBEY Digital Discovery Space, doesn’t just resituate analogue artworks in the digital world. It also opens an interactive adventure space in which viewers can make their own discoveries by playing with varieties of light. Digital processing of the “template” of the unique original works reveals their three dimensionality and complex multiple layers in unparalleled quality, bringing to light a wealth of previously hidden pictures.
With this installation, game developers Christoph Brosius and Jan Bubenik from Berlin have created a successful cross-innovation between art, gaming and technology which through digital transformation makes the changing resonances of OUBEYs paintings visible in virtual reality where- and whenever you want. And as the viewers are moving the Magic Bowl with their own hands, they themselves become the active agents of change.
