Transformation By Eclipse
OIL / MIXED MEDIA ON CARVED WOOD AND BOARD
This work is part of my Transformation Series. It consists of a round piece of carved wood set onto a painted backboard. The inspiration for this work was a partial solar eclipse in Scotland during March 2015. In the work abstract faces can be seen in primary colours looking up at the sky. The sun is eclipsed by the moon, which turns day into night. An eclipse completely alters normal experience and is a symbol of transformation. The broad bands of primary colours face up to look at the eclipse, representing a range of human experience. As they cascade down they become transformed into a rich texture of small multiple portraits symbolising the rich and varied nature of individual human transformation, that can only really be understood from within.
