Wrongs and Rights In Our Life

Wrongs and Rights In Our Life

OIL / MIXED MEDIA ON CARVED WOOD SET ON A BLACK FRAMED BACKBOARD
This artwork comprises three pieces of carved wood paintings that form one composition. The top round piece is an abstract human head “Thinking About Past, Present, Future". I wanted to create a symbol of our human condition. My view is that each human being is a collection of past experiences, present awareness, future hopes and wishes. The central curved shape represents the passage of one human life. In every moment this life connects the past, present and future, flowing through time like a river. Running through the central curved piece are many different segments with abstract images and portraits. Each represents significant events and relationships that formed the life. The bottom round piece contains many images representing memories of past experience. It poses the question "How Can We Forget?" One human life is a metaphor for all humanity. The human race may make social, technological, and cultural progress, but I ask if this creates a better world or whether we experience an endless cycle that repeats the same mistakes against the different backdrop of different cultures and successive centuries.
