War Is Hell

War Is Hell

Painting, Political / Social, Philosophy, Ideas, Emotion, Mixed technique, 113x113cm
OIL / MIXED MEDIA ON CARVED WOOD SET ON BLACK FRAMED BACKBOARD
The image intends to convey the emotional intensity and horror that people experience during war. It reflects my thoughts that humanity was born into a natural paradise and yet certain aspects of human nature turn it into a living hell. Greed, envy, desire for dominance, abuse of power and hatred of others because they are of a different tribe, religion, race or gender. It is painted in memory of three brothers Çakurlar from a very good Turkish family in Cyprus. They were kind to people and were loved very much in their local community. They were also very brave and stood up to protect people against injustice. When the war came they were all killed in separate places, leaving their family bereft. The universal message is that war creates a physical and emotional hell where nobody wins.
