The death of reality captured in the photographic image becomes a metaphor for the reality of death in its indexical representation. What is left is an empty shell of one’s presence in the photograph. My painting takes reference from a personal photograph in my family's collection. The signs of decay in my painting reflects the corrosive effect of time and ominous death bubbling under the surface of all captured reality. Every photograph a memento mori, every representation a ghost of presence.
