Untitled (Midas could teach me a lesson) is one component of a broader body of work scrutinising the impact of mass culture, consumerism and capital on the self. Those of Generation Y inhabit a truly global society of ever increasing polarity between the haves and have-nots. Against such a backdrop ones sense of self is corrupted. This record of a performance documents the poisoning of the self underpinned by various theories of desire, taking a psychological experience within and placing it outside the body. The work utilises a language comprising a family of carefully selected materials in conjunction with action to coax images of the narcissist in his greedy pursuit toward a self-idealised pole.
