The photo was printed on photocopy paper, painted on using watercolor and liquid chalked, printed on instax paper and rephotographed using a piece of painted plastic for texture

By printing the images on photocopy paper using a cheap laser printer and them photocopying the copy, I could easily play with the disgregation of the image itself. I then used watercolor and liquid chalk to change the original image into something that wasn't originally intended

A lot of my mixed media photos end up being printed on silk. I like the idea of creating something that can be worn, rather that just looked at

I keep several sketchbooks available at all times, to gather ideas and notes about images I want to create

Image transfer

By accident I realized that if I left a print in the water overnight the film would separate from the paper and could be lifted

Process

by printing images on acetate and superimposing them on the digital version of the same image I could add layers of degradation and confusion. Every passage would make the image less defined, in a way that's reminiscent of how memory blurs the recollection we have of someone's face

using acetate prints to put together different images allows me to create a dreamlike effect, that can be fine tuned by moving the acetates around

Variations

each image is modified in several steps, until the process has gone too far. The physical print is then destroyed and unusable, but each intermediate step has been saved. The chosen frame is always the penultimate.

Instax

using Instax prints to print directly from the phone. The original image was printed on acetate, burnt, positioned on gift wrapping paper and then printed again in a small, intimate format. Very little of the original is still there, in terms of pixels, but the soul of the first shot is still present

Father

Most of my subject are friends or relatives. This is a photo of my father as a kid. That person does not exists any more, yet my father talks about that kid as if he was still the same person.

This series is a reflexion on the relationship between ideal beauty and the female body, about the perils and intoxication of existing through someone else’s eyes. Who are we when we become another person to please others?
