Along the Tiber

Along the Tiber
the Tiber Island and the Ponte Rotto
the Four Stone heads
seem to stare

the Ghetto and the plaque in memory
of the many massacres
Jews killed
racial madness

They can smell the lamentations
resonate the mother screams
ground footprints that move
lost souls

alleyways that ooze
clotted blood
written history
gray that air
that envelops the memory
like a gloomy cloak
