green line_evocative of an archeology of desperation and desire

My work about divided Cyprus is a photographic journey into the core questions of one of the most complex violent conflicts in Europe after 1945. The pictures are from spaces where this conflict, deep frozen for over 40 years, is remembered. They make it possible to reflect the devastating consequences for the people on all sides, beyond the realm of everyday politics.
How can traumatic events be perceived and made visible? Which processes do I, as a photographer, go through in the course of my work? This inquiry into the ambivalence of photographic representation occupies my thoughts. Portraits of people who have shared their stories with me complete the work.
The submitted work is part of a huge body of work, realised between 2013 and 2016. By the end of March 2017 it will be published by Kettler Verlag Dortmund.
