I’m tired of being myself! I’m so tired of being young!

The work I’m tired of being myself! I’m so tired of being young! (2016) is composed of two posters printed in 100+ copies each that can be taken by visitors. The two pictures are still frames from the Japanese anime Neon Genesis Evangelion taken from my ongoing online collection Stills from Evangelion. While the graphics recalls the style of fan-made subtitles, the original lines are replaced by words from Franco Berardi’s texts on futurity and semiocapitalism.
This work wants to reflect on the tensions between the two notions of simulacra and originality. Two popular anime characters become suspicious of the purpose of their own existence and want to escape from the endless present loop of the series. They feel trapped in their slim teenager bodies unable to grow up, alluding to what is experienced in late-stage capitalism, where the limits of youth are stretched as well as those of precarisation, both financial and emotional.
