物の哀れ ‘The Beautiful Sorrow of Things’
I attempt to bring a sense of spirit in my work, concerned with emotion. Depression is not only a state of being sad, it is a disease that conquers the ability to feel emotion, whether good or bad, whatsoever. ‘The Beautiful Sorrow of Things’ attempts to illustrate this overwhelming sadness and fragility of the subject as she endures the fleeting moments of passing time in an attempt to understand the empty feelings of nothingness. It is the sadness to which the Japanese phrase mono no aware gestures (物の哀れ, literally ‘the beautiful sorrow of things’).
