animal mantra is a book conceived by Dunia Mauro that recites a never ending mantra. Page after page the mantra repeats:
lion zebra giraffe hippo crocodile antelope rhino elephant tiger…and then starts again without interruptions.
The whole text is written in lower case and with no punctuation, because the mantra has no ending and no beginning.
From the book the same nine animals mentioned in the mantra come out as if they took life from the writing itself.
A mantra is a sacred formula that is believed to have both a psychological and spiritual power. It can be a word, a sentence or a sound that when repeated allows to enter in a state of deep meditation, bringing concentration and easing the mind from suffering.
A mantra is also a sacred message that has the power to evoke and transform.
The work stresses the evocative strength of the written word and gives out an aura of magic.
Writing has the power to evoke alternative worlds, to draw from a collective universe, which is invisible but sharable and has the power to free us and make as conscious.
Whether a sacred text, a book of oracles or a doggerel for children, the work provokes deep reflections with a playful approach.
Plastic animals are often the main characters in Dunia’s work and tell with irony about existential matters.
The animals appearing in this work have been also used in a previous project, Animal Constellations, as tools for practicing Divination and read people, their past, present and future.
