From Venus
From Venus (2017) is an installation with wedding veils and projection. This piece is one of my work from the exhibition Room 101 which explores the theme of unity/disunity. In an ideal world, marriage is about uniting. However, many people are in fact separated by this tradition. In today's society where women are still expected to get married by a certain age, sometimes they enter into this bonding relationship due to social pressure. In some countries, women or girls even become brides only to obey wishes of others.
The projection in this installation is a still picture of trees and they signify growth. However, the form of the trees chosen suggests that even the strongest would struggle to grow in difficult environments. The veils in this installation are the moving elements. - viewers are allowed to touch them. Their shadows add movements and contrasts to the still projected background of the dry tree branches. I intended to create a ghostly and soulless effect within a dark space.
Size of the installation varies.
