Landscape for freedom
Resident of a border town, directly involved in the exodus of thousands people, artist and activist, I dedicate this serie of works to the freedom of movement. An anthem to nature and animals who are able to move freely beyond any border. Where I was born, in Ventimiglia, a cement wall is not only a symbol of barrier and border but also of the lost knowledge of the ancient art of building stone walls. Among the stones, once patiently placed and laid by the elders, snails used to find their shelter.
Those animals are now almost extinct due to the use of chemical fertilizers in the countryside. On these fragments of walls, where mosses and moulds are painting nebulae, snails draw on my works labyrinthine constellations as they pass, on what I like to define a” landscape” where nature and time display their revenge on artifice and alienating rush and where Earth dialogues with the Universe.
