Glamazon
This drawing is based on a photo of the model Andrej Pejic, who at the time (2011) often posed in gender ambiguous poses. When Pejic was featured on the cover of ‘Dossier’ magazine, American bookstores refused to sell the issue without an opaque cover, for fear of offending the public. The title is taken from popular culture - while Pejic adds the glamour, I, being quite a tall woman, contribute the Amazonian factor. Pejic has been a very successful high fashion model, and still is today after transitioning.
Export Palin
This drawing combines four women into one: Valie Export with her work ‘Action Pants: Genital Panic’, Marina Abramovićs’ reenactment in 2005, my facial features and the hair & accessories of the American politician Sarah Palin. In regard to the two previous drawings, Palin represents to many an attempt to accumulate political capital and power by spreading genital, gender & other forms of panic.
Men of Israel
This Drawing is based on a promotional photo for a gay porno film titled 'Men of Israel'. The producer, a Russian born American Jew, thought that his choice of location would help Israel - by strengthening the local economy. In turn, he hoped that filming in Israel would boost the success of his production, by using what he believed to be the gifted 'local talents'.
Your KLI is Wonderful!
'The klee is wonderful!', 'The klee is working again', etc.
Here I should mention that in Hebrew the word klee means tool, and is also used as a euphemism for the male organ. In other words, the name was favored for its phallic connotations, and because they found the idea of the 'girls’' unintentional use of it, extremely amusing.
Feeling that I couldn`t pass on this golden opportunity, I decided to create my own joke, inspired by the pranksters. The result was an online media work which was built as a parody on art information and marketing sites. 'Your KLI is Wonderful!' had all the pages you would normally find on such a site; however, each part has undergone a parodic shift, deviating from their original marketing purpose.
The site also featured eight drawings of sharpened charcoal on paper that were made especially for the project. The drawings merge my features with those of various public figures, including high fashion models, porn actors, artists, a politician and a cultural icon. Allowing me to inhabit fluctuating genders, the drawings explore questions related to desire and to the act of collecting, by examining the people that we might long for and wish to collect and gather into our lives.
