The Fish Knows
Rumor has it that the inspiration for this painting came from Kusturica's Arizona Dream. But maybe not, because we discover the passage about the fish that knows the secret of life and death in the novel Cevengur by the Russian writer Andrei Platonov, written way back in 1930. Goran Bregovic, an authentic Balkan gypsy, steals Platonov's words and borrows a song from Enrico Macias (Solenzara) and then makes Kusturica the soundtrack of the Arizona Dream movie, where the fish of Johnny Depp's dream swims through the air; they say that this is the lungfish that the Eskimos give to the young people for a happy life...
We don't know for sure if it brings happiness, but in Christianity the fish is a symbol of Jesus himself: ICHTHYS - Iesous Christos Theou Yios Soter - was the sign by which the first Christians recognized each other in times of hardship...
A 'clin d'oeil' to Kusturica and his movie Arizona Dream, this is a magical interior design painting.
