Selfportrait 25

In my last artworks I tried to define my style from an aesthetic point of view, by employing the variation of gold and black (more generally dark colours and luxury nuances) as a device to depict the struggle between civilization and bestiality, reason and intellect) and low instincts, refinement and barbarity. I’m really interested in the philosophical theme of the contrast between Nature and Culture, the dichotomy “Kultur-Zivilisation” that we can find in the reflection of the italian philosopher Gianbattista Vico and then deepened by successive thinkers like Leopardi, Spengler, Nietzsche and others. I try to face this fundamental theme in different ways and with different visual results by connecting this “core” of my artistic/poetic reflection with other themes that are important to me.⁣
