Letizia Ardillo -La rosa sublime

The work exhibited at the exhibition Images of poems at the Mecenate space in Rome is inspired by the verse of the Song of Songs which opens The Zohar, the book of Splendor, which the kabbalists attribute to Rabbi Shim'on bar Yochai.
The text begins like this:
"Like a rose among the thorns, she is my companion among the girls"
(Song of Songs 2, 2)
Who is the rose? It is Kneset Israel, the community of Israel. Since there is a rose at the top and a rose at the bottom. What can be said about the rose among the thorns? It has red and white, just like Kneset Israel has justice and mercy. What can be said about the thirteen-petalled rose? Just like Kneset Israel she has thirteen attributes of compassion that envelop her on all sides.
And there are five stout petals on which the rose rests and they were called salvations and are now known as the five doors. And this rose is called the cup of blessing, of which it is said "I will take the cup of salvation ..." (salms 116,13)
