Bergie

Have you seen the Cape (Het jy die Kaap gesien) is a sadistic game or joke when a young farm boy is dangled by his ears and asked have you seen the beautiful Cape. But as set against such expectations of beauty and wealth one is confronted with the harsh reality the poverty stricken mainly poor coloured people of mixed race the Bergie , a phenomenon during the Apartheid and Apartheid post era of South Africa. As in my photograph is a term for a subsection of vagrants in Cape Town who live on the slopes of Table mountain beg for money and food in the city and addicted by and large to ease the angst methylated spirits
