Up until neoclassicism, art was focused on exalting the classical beauty of the body.
Harmony in proportions and pleasingly plump shapes were the standards to be followed in order to create compositions which could fascinate the audience, and to realize a proper piece of art. Now the very same phenomenon occurs again with the usage of the physical body and the endless struggle to attain a non-existing perfection. Sandra D’Angelo produces a series of photos where she captures the monstrosity in pre- and post-surgical pictures of people who have undergone aesthetic operations. D’Angelo’s pictures are true: she uses real clinical pictures of patients before plastic surgery, provided by the world-famous surgeon Dr. Bruno, who actively participates in this project. She merges physical details and real elements with the icons of a crazy millennium. Just like aliens, just like new prototypes of a canonized beauty, in the series "Meta-physical Bodies" Sandra D’Angelo represents post-human beings.
She investigates the consequences of an innovative relations of beauty.
Human Bodies are organized in new structures which magnify and mock a new and clear aesthetic notion.
