Painting, Human figure, Acrylic, 160x100x5cm
This painting is part of a series made of 9 pieces that is currently in working progress called “La Nausea”. As the title suggests, this painting as well as the series, it is based upon some inspirations I had while reading the homonymous novel of J.P.Sartre. Through Roquentin (the main character of the novel) we discover that human life is a perpetual striving. After 9/11 and the consequent infamous on going war in Iraq, or the Tsunami disaster in South-East Asia, I borrowed Sartre’s idea that we are “trapped in existence”, leaving in a completely meaningless world. Roquentin as well as men’s quest for some justification for his and our way of life, brings about its disintegration into pure Nausea. As free agent, we are permanently burdened with all the consequences of our decisions, so WE ALONE are RESPONSIBLE, the so-called “DREADFUL RESPONSIBILITY”.
