Vessels

Vessels belongs to a Series I have been working on for sometime – Functions of the female gender - where I explore the relationships between the female body, the female role and the feminine. In Vessels I focus on the phisiology of the female body and its relationship to procriation and pleasure as related to the female torso, pelvis and genitalia. I used embroidery for the qualities it evokes as both a means of subversion and stereotyping of women and feminity (cf. Rozsika Parker). The transparency of the fabric over the painted canvas and its serialization of vessels, or female torsos, adds to the speculation over what is imposed, what is given and moreover, what is expected of.
