Lakota, Omega wolf

This painting is one of a series of artworks on wolves a little understood animal suffering from a shrinking environment and maligned by man. This particular wolf, lowest in the pecking order of his pack, an omega, was cared for by the journalist / photographer couple Jim and Jamie Dutcher and covered in their celebrated book 'Wolves at our Door'. My intention in this artwork and others of its kind is to try to capture the beauty of the animal and call attention to its very human qualities.
