Derek’s sculptural practice is based on light, space, & texture. Sculptures of wax, resin,& glue are backlit and then photographed close-up hundreds of times. These photos are then ‘sewn’
together, enlarged, and so his three-dimensional sculptures enter a two-dimensional chromogenic realm. Biomorphic shapes with apocalyptic colours burst with vivid energy recalling the beginning, or the end, of time.
