please be all I want you to be: will he deign to notice?
In “Will he deign to notice?”, three dashing suitors survey us from the corner of their eyes, while brief texts below mimic 19th century notions of masculine virtue. With their irresistible mix of beauty and disdain, these romantic heroes enter our fantasies, against our better judgment.
“Please be all I want you to be” is a series of works which investigates the longing for the illusions and delusions of fictional romance. It indulges in the decorative pleasures of the 19th century while playing with the darker undertones of a world in which the men are dark and rigid and the ladies soft and fair. Wistful and nostalgic, and possibly romantic, it is tempered by a good dose of irony and humor.
